Challenge of Literature Blog Hop

I LOVE books, completely and utterly, it's a passion that I got from my Granddad who fuelled my addiction through out many years, so when I saw Erin of Treasures Found was hosting a Challenge of Literature I knew I wanted to give it a try!

The idea was to use a book to inspire us to create a piece of jewellery, Sounds easy right? Wrong! Soooo many books to choose from!

I decided to take what I thought would be the easy route and get inspiration from the book I have been reading most recently....

This is the book I have been reading mess maker every night at bedtime The Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton (mess maker loves books as much as I do if not more and refures to her window ledge in her room as her library)!

The story is about 3 children that move to the country side and find an enchanted tree in the middle of the woods, the tree has all sorts of magical folk living in it and its top most branches reach through the clouds to magical ever changing lands such as the land of treats, where they have all sorts of wonderful adventures and get into quite a bit of trouble!

Now I had such wonderful ideas for a necklace filled with charms of fairy's, owls, rabbits, leaves but as is more often then not the case I left it to late to realise this dream so had to think smaller scale and so I came up with this....

A tiny tree of life pendent for mess maker, This was a third attempt and I'm still not 100% happy with it (It would seem neat freaks are not very good at making old gnarly looking trees).

And it seems I have made a rod for my own back as now she has decided that she would also like a Dorothy from the wizard of oz necklace as well.

How can I say no to that smile?

I hope you will take a look at what everyone else came up with....

Cocktail Hour Blog hop

Today I'm joining in with Amy of Copper Diems Cocktail Hour Blog Hop, her idea was that she would email us a cocktail and we were to use something about the drink as our inspiration: color, ingredients, era, location, taste, etc.

 My cocktail is....

Mudslide

Mmmmmmmmmm!

Ingrediants
  • 2 shots vodka
  • 1 shot Tia Maria
  • 1 Baileys
  • 1 tbs. chocolate syrup
  • whipped cream
  • cocoa powder

Swirl the chocolate syrup around the inside of your glass.
Fill a cocktail shaker with crushed ice, add vodka, Tia Maria and Baileys; Shake well. Strain into your glass, top with whipped cream and dust with cocoa powder.

Mmmmmm that sounds soooo nice and we are certainly having the weather for it at the moment, tho I will have to wait a few more months to try it! Any who, one look at this cocktail and I knew what I was going to use to make my piece....

The browns and cream in this boulder opal stone was just shouting coffee, chocolate and cream at me.

Then I added some brown and cream pearls to some handmade chain.

This is still very much a work in progress tho, it still needs a really good buff to get rid of the scratches in the bezel (I'm slowly getting more confident at soldering and bezel setting) and I don't feel that the chain sits right with the chunkiness of the opal, I will properly have to make a bigger bolder chain.

Cheers! (thick chocolate fudge milkshake with lashings of cream mmmmm)

Have a great day

Today is the reveil day of the Button swap blog hop hosted by Cindy Wimmer of Sweet Bead Studio I was incredably fortunate to be partnered with the lovely bead queen Lori Anderson, who sent me these little treasures....

How sweet is this little bouquet mess maker fell in love with it instantly!

There were lots and lots of vintage buttons to work with, the very large red button has been claimed by mess maker and is to be made into some sort of pin because it 'matches her red dress' so watch this space.

and this cute little fish button

I thought that this was going to be quiet an easy challenge but I was really stuck for ideas, so what do you do when you don't know what to do? Try something new....

My first ever attempt at a bead (and button) embroidered cuff

I really enjoyed making this even tho it took forever and thought I was doing quiet well until the other half asked why I was making a book mark! Still I will defiantly try this again I might even plan what I'm going to do before I start next time.

Many thanks to Cindy for arranging the hop and to the Lovely Lori for sending such a wonderful selection of buttons for me to work with, hope you enjoy the hop....
